Making Your Best Even Better
14 04 2008
I know by the title that it may sound like I’m trying to do a spin off of Joel Osteen’s best selling book, “Become A Better You“. Even though it’s an awesome book, I promise this is not one of those blog entries. :)
This all started with God teaching me about humbleness. Ezekiel 16:14 says:
“And thy renown went forth among the heathen for thy beauty: for it was perfect through my comeliness [splendor], which I had put upon thee, saith the Lord God.”
Our kids have always been taught something that sounds good, but is just a complete lie. They’re told by well meaning parents, teachers, and preachers that if you work hard and try your best, you can do anything. Here’s the reality…Sometimes, my best is NOT good enough!
The Bible bears this out even at the foundational level of salvation. No matter how many good things I do, I can never get myself to heaven. I can never force someone to like me, hire me, pick me, forgive me, give me a chance, etc, etc, etc….GET THE POINT??? Some things only come as a result of God’s grace!
But here’s the cool part…ANYTHING OF VALUE THAT I HAVE TO OFFER IS ONLY MADE BEAUTIFUL THROUGH GOD’S SPLENDOR. That is how we make our best even better. When Christ chooses to place his favor and blessing on what you have already done, it will blossom and produce more than you could ever have imagined!
God prides himself on showing his strength in our weakness. Philippians 4:13 bares out that, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.“ It’s nothing you can do alone. You need Christ to shine his light on what you’ve done. That light is what will attract others like moths to a flame. So do your best, and then let God take it from there!
