Kids and Money

While Luke 18:17-22 is in the same chapter, I have never seen a connection between vs. 17 (”verily I say unto you, whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein”) and vs.22 (”yet lackest thou one thin:  sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven:  and come follow me.”)  But the Holy Spirit revealed to me this morning that there is a DEFINITE CONNECTION!

One thing I’ve noticed about my three year old son, Josiah, is that he never stresses about our finances.  As a matter of fact, it never crosses his mind.  Now understand, he knows that it takes money to buy things.  But he’s never asked me questions like, “Dad, how will we pay our propane bill so we can stay warm?”, or “Dad, will we have enough money to buy groceries this week?”.  Do you know why?  It’s because he knows his Father will take care of it and he doesn’t even have to ask!

The rich man in this passage had built up his trust and safety in his money and possessions.  Jesus never said that the things he had were evil, but He could read the man’s heart.  One thing God has been teaching me is that God wants me to TRUST HIM FULLY.  One of the hardest places to trust, is in the financial arena.

But in closing, unless we trust our heavenly Father, like Josiah trusts me, we can’t even get to heaven (vs.17).  And everytime we give and show God we trust Him, we store up riches that won’t ever depreciate (vs.22).  Marilyn and I have never increased our faith in God more than when we trust Him with our finaces.

SO LET’S LEARN A LESSON ABOUT MONEY FROM OUR KIDS…AND TRUST GOD!!!
