OFF THE CHAIN

1 04 2008

We have a dog that is supposed to be Australian Sheppard, but I really feel he’s also part mole.  Unless that dog’s kennel is on concrete, he’ll dig down and out of his cage.  In order to keep him from running away, I put him on a chain.  We didn’t get around to building a kennel for a long time, but when we did, we decided that it was time to let “Zeke” off the chain.  It was pretty interesting what transpired next.

Thinking that he’d explode out of the area that once held him back, I found that Zeke calmly walked to the edge of the grass where he had worn down a dirt path, and stopped.  He had become used to only going as far as the chain had once let him.  He was free to run, but didn’t even know that someone had set him free!

Have you ever felt like Zeke?  For years you were bound by addictions, hurts, hang-ups, bad relationships, etc.  You’ve accepted Christ as your savior but have never realized that Christ didn’t just die for your salvation; he came to set you free!  Free from everything that has ever held you back from fulfilling the dreams he’s placed in your heart.  Free from all of the heartache.  Free from all of the roadblocks.  He whom the Son sets free IS free indeed!  Instead of thinking that you can never change things, begin dwelling on the fact that someone [Christ] already has!

It’s impossible to break free without Christ’s power.  But, remember this…YOU CAN NEVER CHANGE WHAT YOU TOLERATE.  Eventually, you’re going to have to act on this new line of thinking.  So long as you allow certain things to control your life, as long as you maintain certain destiny destroying relationships, you can never change your situation.  So come on…break away!  Live life “off the chain” and go after your God designed destiny!
